Stop Killing! Where is Justice?

For a long time, dogs haven’t been around. However, cats are often spotted in supermarkets or among the bananas at the greengrocer’s in Fethiye. Sometimes, I see black cats wandering around when they spot my shadow on the balcony or near the window. But no dogs! It’s quite strange, especially considering that in my old street, almost every house had two dogs. Here, there aren’t any!

The bird population is also declining. There have been numerous reports in Cyprus about excessive preservatives in grapes. This isn’t just happening here; it’s a problem in Turkey and France as well. I’m not sure about Spain, to be honest. Check it out, everyone! Apparently, they’ve poisoned the grapes for this AI war. I know you’re all wondering why. Let me tell you about a rather unfortunate incident I experienced:

After becoming homeless in December, I moved hotel to hotel, Airbnb to Airbnb. I was staying at the Hoyran Webre Village Houses in Antalya. The owner’s profile picture showed a cat, which I’d seen before visiting. I thought it was just a pet; everyone loves kittens and didn’t want to connect it to “Killer Queen”. I only stopped for gas on my way from Ankara to Antalya. When I arrived, I was so tired but delighted to find a quiet place with few people. However, that quickly changed.

When I went downstairs for dinner, I was surrounded by English people. They seemed to be looking at me as if I were a slave. Their condescending looks and behaviour were quite clear. I decided to eat my meal and then head back to my room. The same thing happened at breakfast the next two days. One table was reserved for bicycles, another was shouting about going for a walk. These cyclists, walkers, jumpers, and joggers have been part of the race from the start, as I hope you know, even Jay Kelly is aware.

Of course, there was a cat there. The woman who owned the place told me we’d just got a little baby dog. I met him, and she said his name was Enzo! However, the cat kept attacking Enzo, and I had to rush out of my room a few times to save him. The little dog was trembling. I didn’t make a big deal of all those things until; late afternoon when I was having coffee instead of five tea, the owner offered to keep me company, and I said yes.

While we were having coffee in the courtyard, she told me how much she loved her cat and how she’d bring birds home and eat them very bloody. To change the subject, I asked, “Oh, are those grapes?” and she replied, “Yes, but hungry birds stealing grapes.”

I got up, went to my room, and started packing my bags. I left as soon as morning came. As I was leaving, she asked why I was leaving since I was going to stay longer. I said, “You describe with great pleasure how your cat devoured a bird until it was bloody, but if a bird eats a tiny piece of grape, you call it hungry.” There were more than three scales in the courtyard as decorations. Scales ⚖️ symbolise justice, so where was her justice?

Those who speak of justice should open their eyes, not their pockets. Don’t put those scales in your courtyards just for decoration.

Grapes were poisoned just so the birds would die.

Where is justice?
